ABOUT OUR MAPLE!

We’re a family-run maple producer. As with many, we started tapping trees and boiling sap as a hobby to join together in the late winter season before spring allowed outside gatherings and summer demanded busy work schedules. It also happens with many that allow sap to flow through their veins, enough is never enough! Every season was spent tapping more trees, purchasing or building bigger equipment. The vicious cycle had certainly turned into more than a hobby. Luckily, maple can be transformed into so many forms of sweetness, that we have had to grow every year to keep up with demand.

We truly enjoy the time spent with family and friends as we work the woods, run the lines, collect the sap, and boil in the saphouse!

ABOUT OUR BEES!

As with our maple “Hobby”, our bees started much the same way. A mere 3 hives were purchased to start in 2009. Set up in a small clearing behind our shop, it was quickly learned that the allowable space wouldn’t hold the apiary for long. With 2 of the 3 making it through their first northern winter, the yard increased with splits, swarm catches, and removals the 2nd year. My first attempt at grafting and queen rearing during that 2nd season was also somewhat successful, and at that point the sky was the limit! Finding it was possible to fine tune our desired genetics was the icing on the cake. Fast forward a few years, and we now maintain outyards throughout rural Schoharie County. These yards are used to produce seasonal varieties of honey from an area that is historically known throughout America for its premium honey. We also operate nuc production yards and queen rearing yards throughout the northern season. Focused on “Northern genetics”, we’re very proud of the bees we produce for our customers.
